Soup and bread and lots of love
Sam and I are home. We are tired. I suspect we will be for a few more days, having gotten up at 3:30 yesterday morning to fly back.
He was a super little guy on our trip, very calm. Actually sleeping most of the time we were in the air! Charming random strangers. Longing to experience the floor of the Philadelphia airport.
We had a good trip. We were able to do some of the things we had hoped, including baking bread and making soup. Because sometimes that is about all you can do, really. And I make pretty good bread.
While we were gone we got our second fall CSA share and our fifth local food share. Post on that coming this weekend– I’m working on getting caught up around the house, and I have an appointment to take outgrown winter clothes to our local consignment shop which I am completely not organized for. But we are on our way to getting back on track. A half bushel of apples seemed to follow Ben home from the farmer’s market this week, too, so applesauce needs to be on my agenda. Rachel continues to inhale it whenever I make it, so I think doing another batch or two is a good idea.
I think I’ll need to find a different applesauce recipe, though. I am feeling the need to shake it up.
Zero food waste week is back on to start Sunday. And I have fifty million autumn veggies to do something with, so this is a good time to go with that.
And I want to make this homemade sriracha. Yum.
I am happy to hear you made it home safely. I have to say it is funny how apples follow you home. i came home today to a small basket of fuji apples, I am looking forward to round two with the dehydrator this weekend. If you are looking for something to do with apples the apple pie filling I made was easy and turned out great.
Ben wants me to do apple pie filling. Maybe I will give it a try.
